“Ever since she was young she had a problem with sleepwalking. It was not a minor case where she might wander into another room or perhaps to the door of the keep. Alas, she would shuffle out of the castle, past the walls, and venture miles into the countryside, one sluggish step at a time.
This caused many problems, none more severe than the fact that when she woke up, she often had no idea where she was nor what path she should take to get back home. Sleepwalking was considered to be a momentary possession by the Gods, and no one wanted to trifle with their wills. Instead, a method of tracking and recovery was devised by a local druid
The druid enchanted the girl with an unusual spell. Whenever she walked anywhere, a vine would grow out of thin air. Wherever she went, the vine would continue to grow, creating an organic tether that, upon waking up, she could follow home, or if she did not wake up soon enough, her journey could be easily tracked. Often when she awoke, the vine would have created a beautiful pattern, crisscrossing and wrapping around boulders and trees alike.” -M.D. Walter
